Just-In-Time Teaching Workshops

This workshop will explore how university professors can harness the capabilities of generative AI models to enhance student learning and engagement in and out of the classroom, from using chatbots for personalized tutoring and feedback to facilitating innovative brainstorming sessions and discussions. Attendees will leave the workshop with a toolkit of techniques to position generative AI as a collaborative learning partner that empowers students, sparks creativity and fosters deeper understanding of course concepts.

This workshop will equip university professors with strategies for maintaining academic integrity in the face of emerging generative AI technologies. Participants will explore best practices for detecting AI-generated content, updating assessment methods and communicating clear expectations around the ethical use of these tools. The session will also cover approaches for supporting students in developing authentic, original work while harnessing the benefits of generative AI responsibly.

Participants will enhance and reimagine a course assignment to integrate with generative artificial intelligence tools. The workshop will combine limited presentations and exemplars of success with some work time and peer interaction, with the goal of each participant leaving the workshop with a road map for a remade assignment for teaching in the era of generative AI.  

Working collaboratively through discussion and peer-review, we will take generative AI into consideration with the “4R” approach: 

• Review your learning outcomes 

• Run your assignments through a gen AI large language model (LLM) to see what AI does well and what it does not do well 

• Remake assignments to incorporate AI 

• Remind students of the role AI should play

This workshop will provide participants with strategies for leveraging generative AI tools in an equitable and accessible manner. Participants will identify potential biases in generative AI models and implement inclusive design principles that empower all students to engage with and benefit from these transformative technologies. The session will also cover practical considerations around privacy, data security and academic integrity when integrating generative AI into the curriculum.

Explore the potential of AI assistants using Amplify, a powerful interface for Generative AI. This hands-on session will guide participants through creating, sharing, and iteratively improving AI assistants tailored to educational needs. Learn to identify opportunities for Generative AI integration, experiment with assistant capabilities, and refine your assistants. Participants will gain practical skills in leveraging AI to enhance learning experiences while considering ethical implications and best practices.
